Speaker: Anna Voitenko - Business Development Officer at ANGIRA WORLWIDE
This is a case study of our project: our client wanted to localize an interactive book app for Android and iOS into Mandarin Chinese. The app had been previously successfully localized into English by our team, but this new project required a completely different approach that we developed ourselves. The text was supposed to move around the screen and change depending on the user's choices and actions. This was a joint effort of language and technology experts as it presented us with a unique set of challenges. Here are just some examples: How do we make this visual letter riddle work with source and target if Russian language has letters and Chinese doesn't? How do we localize this animation that is based on both puns and rhymes? The name of the character is supposed to work with several animations, i.e. the visual form of this word is supposed to resemble a real-life object. What should we do? We want to share a unique route we developed from a customer request to an ergonomic solution and show that localization is so much more than just UI strings.
